The SA Country Footy Championships in Victor Harbor and Encounter Bay saw the Eastern Zone claim the honours convincingly, as both the Mens’ and Womens’ sides cruised to victory yesterday to cap off undefeated tournaments.
The Womens side conceded only three goals for the tournament, beating Central by 26 points in the final for their first title in 6 years, while the Mens side also beat Central by 36 to claim their second successive championship.
Blackwood’s Sarah Campbell and Hahndorf’s Joel Parker-Boers were named players of the tournament, while Mypolonga’s Jordan Hein was named best under 21 player and best on ground in the Mens’ final.
The Eastern Zone is made up of players from the Hills Football League and River Murray Football League, along with the Riverland and Murray Valley Football Leagues.
It was a less memorable tournament for the Southern side, which finished 4th in the Mens and 5th in the Womens.
Between the two zones across both divisions, 15 players in total were selected as part of the teams of the tournament.
The weekend overall proved to be widely successful for the South Coast, with strong crowds recorded across the three days.
