Dragon Boating, Fighting Fires & Beating Cancer – Heather Wehr

Victor Harbor’s 2024 Citizen of the Year is Heather Wehr, who has had lasting contributions to many community groups across the region.

She is an active and passionate member of the CFS (Lower Inman Valley CFS Brigade and former Cadet Leader with the Victor Harbor Group CFS), a breast cancer survivor and advocate, founder of the ‘Victor Dragons’ dragon boat club and a ukelele musician who supported the creation of the group ‘The Harborites’.

The recognition follows a recent National Medal for the Black Summer bushfires from Governor General of Australia, the Hon. David Hurley.

Other winners in the district include Young Citizen of the Year – Sonya Walker, Active Citizenship – Nedra Haines and Community Event of the Year – Gypsy, The South Coast Choral and Arts Society.

The 2024 Citizen of the Year Awards will be formally presented at the City of Victor Harbor’s Australia Day Celebrations on Friday, 26 January 2024. The festivities will take place at the Soldiers Memorial Gardens (Flinders Parade, Victor Harbor) with a free BBQ breakfast from 8am, followed by a formal ceremony at 9am.
