Just before 9pm, police were called to Main South Road after reports a white Suzuki sedan had crashed into a tree, with the car then catching fire shortly afterwards.

The man’s death is the 54th life lost on SA roads this year.

It follows an incident in the foothills at Bellevue Heights just two hours earlier, where a Toyota crashed through a fence and into a church on Alpha Road.

Patrons within the church were remarkably uninjured, despite the building sustaining significant damage.

The driver and passenger sustained minor injuries, with investigations now underway into the circumstances around the crash.

This morning saw bedlam on the South Eastern Freeway down-track, with a huge seven-vehicle crash grinding traffic to a halt around 7:15am.
