The Stirling Community Hospital will be able to stay put, instead of shifting to Mount Barker.
In April 2023, it came to light that the non-for-profit facility would risk losing accreditation if it did not comply with future regulations.
The Board was forced to consider whether it could spend $50 million for upgrades or shift to another location in Mount Barker.
Following significant community advocacy, a push from the member for Heysen Josh Teague, two community forums and the establishment of the Save Stirling Hospital Inc. Association, the board has now announced some good news.
They have received a full three year accreditation and say the facility can stay in the short to medium-term, and may be able to stay long-term.
