$4.8M Cost-of-Living Help for South Aussies

As Country Cabinet gets underway in Mount Barker, the State Government will announce a $4.8 million program to help financially insecure South Australians struggling with cost-of-living challenges.

The Financial Wellbeing and Resilience Program will offer a range of services for South Australians, including financial counselling, debt management and renegotiation, support to access no-interest loans, and emergency financial assistance.

Lutheran Care will run the program in the Adelaide Hills, with services offered from Willow Children’s Centre, Mount Barker Community Centre and additional co-located drop-in services across the Hills.

In the Murraylands, Adelaide and Fleurieu Peninsula, service providers for the program include Junction Australia (Fleurieu and KI), ac.care (Murray Mallee), Lutheran Care (Barossa), Uniting Communities (Eastern Adelaide), Anglicare SA (Northern Adelaide), Uniting Communities (Southern Adelaide) and UnitingCare Wesley Bowden (Western Adelaide).

The new program is based on successful financial wellbeing services provided to River Murray communities during the floods and floods recovery periods. It has been designed in a partnership between the Department of Human Services, Flinders University’s Centre for Social Impact and the SA community services sector.

As part of Country Cabinet, Minister for Human Services will today, Wednesday 23 August, host a Financial Wellbeing and Food Security Forum with invited attendees from the sector at Auchendarroch House, Mount Barker.

Community members are also invited to Premier Peter Malinaukas’ Country Cabinet community BBQ and forum this afternoon (23 August) from 5pm at Mount Barker High School.
