Willunga Jigsaw Mania
Sat 15 May 2021
Willunga Jigsaw Mania
Willunga Jigsaw Mania is an innovative and entertaining fundraiser for Willunga Recreation Park. This fun day will be held on Saturday 15 May 2021 in the Willunga Recreation Park halls, Main Road Willunga, with doors opening at 10:30am.
Between the social puzzling in a relaxed setting and the faster paced jigsaw puzzle competitions there will be something for everyone.
A giant puzzle on display, a raffle, puzzle exchange and small trading table add further interesting elements.
There is also the opportunity to watch the serious dissectologists, who at noon will race to complete a 500-piece jigsaw puzzle in under 2 hours. The winner will represent South Australia at the National Jigsaw Puzzle Competition in Nov 2021. A true spectator sport indeed!
Refreshments will be available for purchase. The taste temptations will include cake, coffee, beer, wine, soup, dumplings and steamed buns.
Children of all ages can also be involved.
There is an opportunity to really make a day of it - visit the Willunga Farmers Market in the morning and stay for dinner afterward the event.
Social jigsaw puzzling (10.30 am to 6 pm)
Bookings required due to number limits imposed by COVID spacing rules.
$5 per person (includes loan of puzzles). Children under 5 are free.
People are invited to gather with friends or meet new ones and complete any jigsaws of their choice. There will be a variety of shapes, styles, brands and sizes for people to try.
A number of jigsaw puzzles will be sourced from local Op Shops and completed by attendees as a ‘community service’, to check for missing pieces. These puzzles will be available to purchase, and proceeds will go back to the op shop of origin.
There will be a dedicated children’s area, with foam mat puzzles for babies/toddlers, wooden puzzles, large floor puzzles, and a selection of puzzles for primary school age children.
Display of a giant 18,000-piece Ravensburger jigsaw puzzle
A community-assembled 18,000-piece jigsaw entitled The Magical Bookcase will be on display.
The puzzle measures 276cm x 192cm.
Designed by Colin Thompson (an author and illustrator of children's books), the image is full of intricate detail, with much humour woven into it just waiting to be spotted by those with a keen eye. It will truly be a sight to behold!
The puzzle will be sold to the highest bidder (including online) at the end of the event (RRP $450).
Puzzle exchange (register from 1030am, swapping commences at 230pm)
Attendees can bring along pre-loved puzzles and swap them for others. The swap will be on a comparable size basis (i.e. 500-piece for 500-piece). Ideally, puzzles should be complete, but there will be a table for puzzles with missing pieces.
There will be a facilitated exchange for people who bring more expensive, larger or treasured puzzles and wish to give permission before swapping.
Raffle & trading table
Some amazing prizes are up for grabs, including a true collectors delight - eight Ravensburger Snow White and Seven Dwarfs puzzles (a group image and 7 individual dwarf portraits).
There will also be a trading table selling t-shirts, a small range of puzzles & our favourite, socks printed with jigsaw puzzle pieces!
