Chickens Bring Jobs To The Yard

Australia's continuing love of chicken meat will help create eleven jobs at a new farm to built just outside of Murray Bridge.

The 12 sheds with a custom heating and cooling system along with 18 silos will be built at Kepa just east of the town, operated by White Mallee Poultry, it will contribute around 4% to Ingham’s total production in South Australia.

South Australia is expected to export more than 200,000 tons of chicken meat every year by 2020, making the SA chicken industry the state's biggest meat exporter.

The Chat Hill farm will be built using funds from the SA Government Reginal Development Fund which has contrinuted $360,000 to the build.

Regional Development Minister Geoff Brock says expansion in this industry is essential for the local economy.

"This is an imprtant project for the Murray Mallee community, as it will create eleven new jobs, including five ongoing full time positions once construction is complete."

"The chicken meat inustry is vital to South Australia's economy. It is responsible already for thousands of jobs, including 2700 in nothern Adelaide poultry processing plants alone."

"By 2020, industry expansion will add another 850 new jobs, and a further 700 construction jobs."

Chat Hill Pty Ltd Director Craig Skinner says the farm will also have a knock on effect to other business in the community.

"In addition to the initial construction jobs and the on-going on site jobs, the farm will support around 30 jobs in the local community."
