Pair Jump For Their Lives In Paddle Steamer Explosion

A man and a woman are lucky to be alive after the paddle steamer they were on at Wellington yesterday, exploded and caught on fire.

The pair were on the Eliza Ann, a replica paddle steamer just after 1:30pm when explosions were heard coming from the engine room. They were forced to flee to the top deck and jump into the water as the flames quickly spread.

A passing boat pulled them to safety, fire crews and SA Ambulance called in to put out the fire and treat the victims. While the boat managed to stay afloat it is badly damaged, the cause is still being investigated.
